Deep Japanese Bathtubs Are The Choice For Relaxation

Many people prefer the traditional look when it comes to designing their bathroom, and therefore was often choose a traditional bathtubs style such as a claw foot bathtub or the old-fashioned large oblong bathtub. However, many people are now looking at other bathtub designs as a way of bringing life into their bathroom design in one style that has become popular over the past 10 years or so is that of the deep Japanese bathtubs, a style which adds an Oriental or Asian look to a bathroom and makes the design something special.

The Oriental bathtub, and the Japanese-style soaking tub in particular, is effectively a soaker tub, one in which the person taking a bath will sit in extremely deep water. Some of these bathtubs can be quite large and are usually in an oblong style, though they tend to be shorter than the traditional Western bathtub.

An average size is about 22 inches wide and about 75 inches long, though with a depth that can be as much as 40 inches, holding a water level of about 30 inches or so, and a capacity of about 80 gallons.

Deep Japanese Bathtubs with Seats

A deep soaking Japanese tub will sometimes have a seat, in which case it can be classed as an upright Japanese bathtub. Traditionally these were made of wood, but it is now possible to get them in acrylic and fiberglass, and also stainless steel in many cases, something which adds a real element of design to a bathroom. Deep Japanese soaking tubs are a compact bathtub variety, but this does not stop them from using modern technology such as the whirlpool and a Jacuzzi. These tend to be fitted on the larger Japanese bathtubs, though the upright deep soaking style can also fit these accessories.

For the really authentic touch, a Japanese soaking tub should essentially be a drop in bathtub, though it is possible to find freestanding models, sometimes pedestal bathtubs, which are done in the Japanese soaker style. In the traditional Japanese bathtub, the floor was tiled, and this is something that many Western bathtub designers are now taking to heart. The sunken bathtub will usually be surrounded by a tiled area, with a rim sticking out about 5 inches above the ground. For the freestanding style, the bathtub was often be a solid piece, resting on the floor with no sign of legs.

Square Style Deep Japanese Bathtubs Are Great

This style is often a deep square bathtub, often with an integral seat. A good choice can be the Americh Japanese bathtub, a round Japanese bathtub style fitted with a seat. This company also supplies an upright after that has a heated air system and powerful air jets.

Another great choice for the person looking for luxury is the Caruso Japanese deep tub, a drop in bathtub with a 49 inch diameter along with the whirlpool jets and Jacuzzi. Other styles include an authentic copper soaking tub, antique style which retails at a price of around $6000. A Japanese bathtub from Americh can be bought for around $2500, a square Japanese soaking tub with 45" x 45" dimensions and holding approximately 72 gallons of water. Don't forget the rest of the decoration, and choose muted colors with a good paint job, as this advice from the New York Times points out.

Traditional Deep Japanese Bathtubs

All these styles of bathtub, traditional though they are, can fit in well with a modern bathtub style. Make sure that you take the advice of a professional bathroom installer before deciding on your bathtubs style, since you may need to have specialist installation procedures carried out for certain types of bathtub unit, especially the sunken soaking bathtub variety.
